SOCIAL WORK

The Chow Chow was originally bred for guarding and hunting. The guarding instinct, which remains strong in most of our modern dogs, makes the breed naturally reserved and suspicious. Their deep attachments, abiding loyalties and life-long memories are a positive expression of this primitive instinct.

However, there is another consequence of this wonderful instinct,
unfortunately all too common.

As a result of inadequate socialising, many Chow Chows today are fearful which can manifest in either timidity or aggression. A fearful Chow is not a happy Chow. You have a responsibility to ensure that your Chow has adequate food, shelter … and opportunities to socialise!
